Active Citizenship Programme

Active Citizenship Programme is a collaboration between the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area, the Spanish Government and the NGO Platform of Social Action. Its objective was to contribute to the participatory democracy, the promotion of human rights and social inclusion.

These grants financed 38 projects, developed by 120 entities.

Active Citizenship Programme was focused on the following áreas: democrazy; human rights; non-discrimination; good government and transparency; the fight against racism, xenophoby, social inequalities, poverty and exclusion, and gender violence; and gender equality.

The financial mechanism offered to 15 EU countries –among them, Spain- the funds to fight intolerance and to achieve a fairer society. The countries beneficiaries of these fund are: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. The countries which obtained more funds were Poland -€ 37million- and Romania -€ 30million-, 45% of the total amount.
