Hilmar Magnusson has served as president of Samtökin ´78 – The National Queer Organisation of Iceland since March 2014. He was International Officer from 2011 to 2014 and member of the board from 2007 to 2010. He has been active in the LGBTI movement for about 15 years.

Hilmar has worked for the Mayor of Reykjavik since late 2011, currently as International Officer. He worked for the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2010.

Hilmar holds an MA degree in International Affairs from the University of Iceland and a BA degree in architecture from Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark.
